FAQs
What is a chemical exfoliant?
A chemical exfoliant uses acids such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) to gently remove dead skin cells without the need for physical scrubbing. Regular exfoliation can help improve the appearance of skin texture, promote a smoother-looking complexion and reveal brighter, more radiant skin.
What is the difference between AHAs and BHAs?
AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) work primarily on the skin’s surface to exfoliate dead skin cells and help improve the appearance of texture, tone and radiance. BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) are oil-soluble, allowing them to work within pores as well as on the skin’s surface, making them especially helpful for skin prone to clogged pores and imperfections.
Which face exfoliator should I choose?
Choose the Soothing Exfoliating Face Mask with AHA if you’re looking for gentle exfoliation and smoother, more radiant-looking skin, especially if your skin tends to be more sensitive.
Choose the Brightening Exfoliating Face Mask with AHA and BHA if you’re looking for a more complete exfoliating action to help improve the appearance of uneven texture, dullness and clogged pores while revealing a brighter-looking complexion.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EXFOLIATING MY SKIN?
Exfoliating your face once or twice a week can help improve cell turnover to reveal smoother and brighter skin! It also helps improve the appearance of fine lines and pigmentation spots.
Exfoliation also helps unclog pores and promote a better penetration of skin care products!
How often should I use a chemical exfoliant?
We recommend using your chemical exfoliating face mask 1 to 2 times per week, depending on your skin’s needs and tolerance. If you’re new to chemical exfoliation or have sensitive skin, start once a week and adjust as needed.
How do I use a chemical exfoliating face mask?
Apply a thin, even layer to clean, dry skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. Follow with your favourite face serum and moisturizer. We recommend using your exfoliating mask in the evening and applying sunscreen during the day.
Slight tingling or redness may be perceived. We recommend doing a patch test before first use.
Beauty tip: Let dry completely and peel or roll the mask in small pieces for an authentic peeling effect 🙈
IS IT NORMAL IF MY SKIN TINGLES OR IS RED DURING AND AFTER THE EXFOLIATION?
Yes :) A slight tingling or redness may be perceived during and after, which means the acids are working, but you should never experience any pain or prolonged redness.
Can I use AHA and BHA with other active ingredients?
To keep your routine gentle, we recommend avoiding layering multiple exfoliating acids or other potentially irritating active ingredients in the same routine. Instead, alternate them on different days and pay attention to how your skin responds. Always follow with moisturizer, and wear sunscreen during the day.
ARE THE FACE EXFOLIATORS AVAILABLE IN BULK?
Yes :) Our face exfoliators are available in bulk in our boutiques in Montreal.
